The AAUW 130th Anniversary Membership Campaign started on November 1. Branch members are encouraged to recruit new members — and earn a chance at a free membership for themselves. There is also a new discounted membership for graduate students. See the table below, and contact us if there are any questions. See aauwnc.org and aauw.org for additional details.
Except for the regular dues of $65, the following amounts apply to new members and those rejoining after a break of at least two years.
Membership Type | Join Date | Expiration Date | Dues (regular) | Dues (graduate student) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Best Value | Dec. 2010- Feb. 2011 | 6/30/12 | $73.00 | $42.81* |

This post was originally published November, 2010, but has been updated in January, 2011.
Please consider this table a draft that represents my understanding of the 130th anniversary membership campaign (given that state dues are $11 and branch dues are $5). If you’ve got suggestions, please let me know.
It still bugs me that new people not just graduate students cannot join for a discounted amount right now — or at least by Dec. 1. We are already half way through the year (for all practical purposes).
Will you please run by your figures (if you still use them) for paying once from Jan. 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012?
Mary Fran – The “best value” membership is a local implementation of an 18-month membership:
$49 – sent to AAUW as a national membership, with an expiration date 12 months from the join date.
$5.50- half-year membership in AAUW NC – sent directly to AAUW NC
$2.50 – half-year membership in Tar Heel Branch – retained by THB.
$11+$5, then, is 2011-2012 dues for state and branch when the person is “transferred” from national to branch membership. Since the AAUW dues have been paid to a date in 2012, there is no additional national fee — the expiration date is just shifted to 6/30/2012.
49+5.50+2.50+11+5 = 73
You’re right that it’s odd that members joining now still have to pay the full $65 — but the 18-month membership takes advantage of the fact that AAUW doesn’t charge extra dues to those who join in January or February [In contrast, someone with a Dec. 31, 2010 expiration date who joins a branch, does, as you imply, need to pay $49 + $11 + $5 for branch membership through June 30 — if they paid just state/local, their national membership would revert to 6/30/2010.]
It has been announced that the $18.81 rate for graduate students joining AAUW will be extended to 6/30/2012.
There is also a $130 rate for new (or lapsed for at least two years) colleges/universities joining as C/U Partners — no matter the size of their enrollment.
